The story behind Drowning

I created this song of hope while transitioning through a dark season of loss. The pain was overwhelming, but I knew that God was greater than my trials.

When I couldn't hold on to Him, He held on to me. He lifted me up out of what I was never meant to drown in.

It is His mercy, His grace, and His love, shown toward me, that make me a prisoner of hope.

The lyrics

Intro soft piano, ambient pad, whisper choir

Oh Lord… I'm drowning…

Verse 1

I'm drowning in love, in my passion and in my pain,

Dear Lord, I'm drowning while I'm dancing in the rain.

Chorus full vocal, drums and choir enter

The tide is high while the wind blows strong,

I'm drowning in your arms as you welcome me home.

Your love is like fire and your grace is pure,

I'm drowning in your mercy that forever endures.

Verse 2

I'm drowning in my purpose where the path is stained,

With the blood of those gone before me painting the portrait of their pain.

Chorus bigger, with choir harmony

The tide is high while the wind blows strong,

I'm drowning in your arms as you welcome me home.

Your love is like fire and your grace is pure,

I'm drowning in your mercy that forever endures.

Bridge stripped down, just piano and vocal

Through heartbreak and tears, a wounded soul and battle scars,

I'm drowning way above the moon, above the sun and above the stars.

Breakdown slow, prayerful

In the scary midst of confusion, doubt, fear, and loss,

I'm still drowning as my ordered steps lead me to that rugged cross.

Final Chorus epic, full choir

I'm drowning in love, in my passion and in my pain,

Dear Lord, I'm drowning while I'm dancing in the rain.

The tide is high while the wind blows strong,

I'm drowning in your arms as you welcome me home.

Outro soft, fading

Prisoner of hope…

I'm drowning, Lord… in You.
